Dear Tropical Storm Andrea, go away, seriously! No one has time for your drama. It's the weekend and I have big plans to sit poolside with a cold brew, not deal with torrential downpours and gusty winds on your journey up the East Coast. Please and thank you.  Dear Husband, thanks for paying for everything lately. I'm sure it's no fun having a broke-ass wife. I'll make it up to you when I'm rich and famous. ;)  Dear Monthly Bills, just stop it. (I'm looking at you, student loans). You are a constant weight on my shoulders, not to mention you're cramping my style. Literally... I need a new summer wardrobe, stat!  Dear Paula Deen, I hate to admit it, but I think I love you. Anyone who gets that joyful and excited over food is alright in my book. Plus your sons aren't too bad on the ole' peepers. :)  Dear Dunkin Donuts coconut iced coffee, you taste like summer and the beach and you put a big smile on my face. Thanks for being awesome.

Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone

I've gotta be honest: I'm not a fashionista.

Cute, comfortable, and cheap = my wardrobe. I live in leggings and cardigans in the winter, sundresses and flipflops in the summer. I'm not a big risk taker. Mainly I'm afraid of looking like an idiot.

I stepped out of my comfort zone recently. Not toooo far, just enough to make myself nervous. I bought jewelry I never would have thought to buy before - statement jewelry! I know I'm about two years behind on the trend but I really love what big bold pieces can do for a simple outfit!

 Like every other girl on the planet, I became obsessed with the J.Crew bubble necklace but there was no way in hell I was dropping $200 to buy one off eBay. Enter GemPearls shop on Etsy. I'm in looooove with it. I want one in every color.

I picked up this blue, green and gold bracelet that I figured would look great once I'm tan. And these pale pink drop earrings that are pretty massive in person. Both from Sam Moon - inexpensive trendy jewelry (and more), but still decent quality. Boom!

 I'm obsessed with this coral-orange-red necklace, also from Sam Moon. The yellow necklace below is from GemPearls Esty shop.

Wedding Wednesday

It's Wedding Wednesday!

So, total fail, I wanted to post about this wedding last Wednesday but I started a new job (yay!), so blogging fell to the back burner. Today it is!

My cousin Lisa got married over Memorial Day weekend on Sunday. I grew up with Lisa and her sister Laura. We went to dance class together, starting around age 2. They turned out to be really talented and took dance seriously; me, not so much. (True story: my mom would drop me off at ballet class, I would wait for her to drive away, then I would walk across the street to Dunkin Donuts and hang out until it was time for her to pick me up. I'm not sure she knows I did that... sorry Mom.)

ANYWAY. We were totally late to the ceremony. SOMEONE had to stop and get a Red Bull. Way to go, husband.

Lisa's father is a deacon. So he not only got to walk her down the aisle, he also performed the ceremony, which was very special.

The reception was a great time, although I have to say: when someone requests Cupid Shuffle, you put that shit on. People loooove the Cupid Shuffle. Geoff requested it for me and the DJ told him no. Womp womp. They did play the Wobble, which comes in a close second to the Shuffle, but still.

Sorry for the crap iPhone photos. One day I'll be able to afford a DSLR, le sigh.

Great times! Although I may have been slightly annoyed when I noticed Geoff had imbibed in a few too many Cap't and gingers. I was ready to hit the bars after the wedding and this fool fell asleep in the car. At 10:12pm.

It's a good thing he's cute. ;)

Weekend (Semi)-Shenanigans

I had a great weekend but it was FREAKING HOT, y'all! Mid 90s and sticky humid. Gross.

 

Friday night after work, Geoff and I met up with two of my girlfriends for happy hour. As usual, I wanted to keep the party going but my hubs had work at 5am on Saturday (ugh it sucks when he works the weekends) and my ladies had things to do. So I decided to take an impromptu trip up to Jersey to hang with our besties Amy and Leo!

 

We went down the street from their apartment to a little bar called Currans. There was a local band playing and they were pretty decent. Some drunkass insisted on "chair dancing" and by that I mean he was dragging a chair around the floor while simultaneously thrusting at the air. Very sexy. ;)

 

Blogger fail: our shenanigans lasted into the early morning hours and I totally didn't take any pictures. Trust me, it probably wasn't pretty.

 

Saturday, I was my mom's date at a wedding in Maryland. The people who live across from my mom have been our neighbors for 27 years and I grew up with their daughter, who was the bride. The wedding was at the Kitty Knight House, which is right on the Sassafras River. It was absolutely gorgeous!

 

 

 

If you can believe it, I got sunburned in the twenty minutes we sat outside for the ceremony, that's how brutally hot it was.

 

The reception took place outside under a tent with chandeliers and paper lanterns strung from the ceiling. The bride was stunning. The booze was flowing. Mom and I had a really great time!

Sunday we woke up to darkish skies but I was determined to get some sun, since the forecast wasn't calling for rain and it was still a billion degrees outside. Geoff invited his friend Matt, we hit the liquor store, then went over to my dad's pool.

 

Oh and I would NOT suggest getting Evan William's cinnamon whiskey. The dude at the liquor store swore it tasted like Fireball. Well it does not, my friends. Gross. I still drank it though... I couldn't let it go to waste. :)

 

 

I'm glad this weekend was pretty relaxing. The next few weeks are going to be hectic - bridal showers, Run or Dye in Philadelphia, the Italian Festival and more shenanigans, I'm sure. And I'll be blogging about all of it!

 

Oh and one thing before I go:

 

 

I'm reading "Sad Desk Salad" by Jessica Grose and the title was inspired by what it sounds like: girls in their offices at lunch time eating their sad desk salads. The irony wasn't lost on me. :)

Wedding Wednesday

True story: my wedding was awesome. In my humble opinion, of course. :)

However, I am no longer a “bride” (sad face) and it would probably be weird if I blogged about my wedding nine months after the fact. Then I thought “Hey this is my blog and I'll do what I want!”

And that, my friends, is how Wedding Wednesday was created. You're welcome.

 

 

Look... who doesn't love weddings, amirite? Come this weekend, wedding season begins, for me at least! I've got one in May, one in June, two in September and one in October. I figured I'd blog about my own wedding and then share the deets of all the other weddings I attend! Oh and anything wedding related goes – nothing is off limits. :)

Just a Few Things I'm Loving...

1. Garnier Frutis Sleek and Shine Moroccan Oil

 

 

Where has this stuff been all my life?! My hair is crazy damaged from coloring it all these years: thick, wavy, frizzy but will go flat in a matter of hours. This stuff is amazing. The scent is subtle. My hair is softer, more manageable and doesn't tangle. The best part? I only paid $5.79 for it at Walgreens and I have a feeling the bottle will last forever!

 

 

2. Gold Canyon "Beach" Scented Candle

 

No lie. Best smelling candle ever! My mom's best friend Gayle sent this to me last summer before our wedding (she's a consultant for Gold Canyon). It's about the same size as a large jar from Yankee Candle and I think the quality is so much better. The scent fills our whole apartment without being overwhelmed or headache-inducing. It smells like coconut and sunscreen and deliciousness. And reminds me of our wedding!

 

 

3. Long Island Medium

 

 

Ughhh I love this show! I know people say she's fake and honestly I don't care. I love that her husband calls her "Theres-er" with his Long Island accent. "The higher the hair, the closer to God." She's such a trip!

 

 

4. Bud Light Lime Straw-ber-ita

 

So Bud Light Lime is one of my FAVORITE beers, especially for summer. I thought the original Lime-a-Rita was pretty good but this one might be even better. Amy and I split a big one Saturday night... it may have contributed to my Sunday morning headache. So gooood.

I'm a BRIDESMAID!

Happy Monday!

 

Over the weekend, Geoff and I went to New Jersey to visit our friends Amy and Leo. (We live in Delaware, but Geoff is from Jersey and that's where a lot of our friends live.) Geoff and Leo have known each other since grade school, so they're totally BFFs. We went on vacay with them a few years ago to Jamaica and it was a total blast. Amy and Leo are getting married in October and Geoff is a groomsman. We are super excited for their big day!

 

So this happened on Saturday.

 

 

And then this happened.

 

(Oh man she's gonna kill me for posting this).

 

After a few games of beer pong (in which the girls dominated, natch!) and some more shenanigans, Amy and I ended up outside with her fiancée. (My hubby has a habit of passing out early, so he was sleeping on the couch). We started talking about their wedding and I said "Can I come visit you while you're getting ready on the wedding day?"

 

A little background:

 

Amy and I have known each other since Geoff and I started dating (so about 6 years). We're friends but in the last couple months, we've gotten so much closer. Our daily texting is kinda out of control. We quote New Girl on the reg.

 

 

Amy has a group of very close friends, so I didn't feel bad or anything when she didn't ask me to be a bridesmaid. I've been through the wedding thing and it involves making tough decisions. Plus she and Leo live about an hour away in Jersey so we don't see each other as often as we'd like. I was just excited that Geoff was a groomsman and I told her I would be there for whatever she needed!

 

So imagine my surprise when she asked me to be a bridesmaid right there on the balcony! Even though it's a little late to the game, I told her absolutely yes, I would love to be in her bridal party! We have gotten so close in the last few months and I now consider her to be one of my best friends. I think some girls might have been offended, but I couldn't be more excited. I guess I should start looking for a bridesmaid dress!

 

So then I spent the rest of the night running around their apartment yelling "I'm a BRIDESMAID!" and promptly posted it on Facebook (can't take it back now, biotch!).
